Memorial to General de Lattre de Tassigny and the 1st French Army

This monument is located in the very town where General de Lattre de Tassigny set up his command post on August 17, 1944. The monument consists of a horizontal, rectangular stele decorated with several reliefs depicting the illustrious General, a tank, landing barges, ships, aircraft and soldiers. At its feet is a marble plaque (Rhine and Danube insignia).

The inauguration took place on August 31, 1969, in the presence of a number of personalities, including Mme Maréchale de Lattre de Tassigny, M. Jean-Paul Roy (Préfet du Var), Generals Monsabert, Bonjour, Audolento, Perpere, Molle, Guiliano, Bouvet, Frat and Baillif, and M. Caillat (Mayor of Cogolin).
