Grimaud
Let’s discover the inside of a windmill. Since the 17th century, we know the existence of a mill at this place. Gave up at the beginning of the 20th century, this mill found again his wings, his mechanism and its roof thanks to companions of duty. The St Roch Windmill was built in the 16th century on a strategic spot chosen by the wind.
It used to be called the ‘Gardiole’ Windmill, before taking its name from ‘St Roch’ in the 17th century, just like the nearby chapel.
There were nine windmills at the time, which all served to produce flour.
During the 1990s, the mechanism of the St Roch Windmill was renovated, along with the sails and the roof.
