Walk from Grimaud to la Garde Freinet through les Vernades

Pedestrian sports - Hiking itinerary

Grimaud
Link Grimaud to la Garde Freinet via les Vernades. Throughout this hike, admire the cork oak forest known as the suberaie, as well as a chestnut grove.
Enjoy a shady spot before climbing to a remarkable viewpoint.
From there, contemplate the slopes of the Massif des Maures which fall into the Mediterranean. In winter, some sunrises will enchant you with their flamboyant colours.
You will have the opportunity to cross small hamlets. La Galine, Les Vernades, Embaude...

A bit of etymology: "La Galine" comes from the word "Volaille"; "Les Vernades" comes from "verne", which means "alder". The alder is a tree that grows on the banks of rivers. The name "Embaude" comes from an old family name (1445) Baude.

Walk along and cross small streams that feed the river Garde and the Giscle. These two rivers, often dry on the surface in summer, have created the Grimaud plain.

Path set up by the Communauté de Communes du Golfe de Saint-Tropez.
