Sainte-Maxime
The Deffend trail
IMMERSED IN NATURE
Discover this lovely walk in the heights of Sainte-Maxime! The sentier du Deffend offers you an experience in the heart of nature, an escapade that will take you to the summit for a breathtaking 360-degree view. You'll be able to admire the majestic Estérel massif, the picturesque Maures massif and, of course, the famous Gulf of Saint-Tropez. If the weather is good, you may even be able to make out the Alps on the horizon, adding a spectacular touch to this already impressive panorama.
A 360° PANORAMIC VIEW
The ultimate goal of this hike is to reach the orientation table, which will give you an unobstructed, panoramic view of the entire bay of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. You'll also be able to admire the Var hinterland and the majestic peaks of the Massif des Maures. It's the perfect opportunity to appreciate the extent and richness of this coastal and inland territory. You'll find yourself at the crossroads of two worlds, the coast and the hinterland, all in a single 360-degree view.
OUR FAVOURITE MOMENT
For an unforgettable experience, plan your hike for the end of the day. The sunsets from the sentier du Deffend are simply magical. The colours of the sky, ranging from blues and pinks to oranges and purples, create an incredibly romantic atmosphere. Close your eyes for a moment and try to immerse yourself in the smells that awaken at dusk. The scents of Mediterranean plants fill the air, creating a unique sensory experience. Try to guess which plants and shrubs surround you for a deeper connection with nature.
On the way back, bear in mind that it will be dark, so don't forget to take a torch or headlamp. This will allow you to follow the path in complete safety and maybe even spot a few of our furry friends if you're discreet enough.
THE ECO-RESPONSIBLE GESTURE
During your hike, make sure you minimise your impact on the environment. Take along a small bag to collect any rubbish you may have left over from your picnic, cigarette ends or any other waste you may generate. Nature is precious, and by showing respect for it, you're helping to preserve it. You'll appreciate the beauty of nature all the more if you leave it untouched for future generations.
